Gabi Milne

Therapy Support

Hello, my name is Gabi.

I graduated as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2001 from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Initially I ran preschool language enrichment groups and then spent 19 years at a traditional all boys junior school as their in-house SaLT. Working privately, but as part of the school team, gave me many happy years of collaborative work. I developed a passion for creative writing and language enrichment, especially for the English second language population, where I found great joy in helping those boys access and develop their English language skills.

I joined Words First in March 2023, taking on a totally new role and ready for all the challenges that come with big change. I provide report writing support and guide new starters through their report writing journeys at Words First. As you get to know me, you will realise that while I am a stickler for format/grammar, I am always up for a laugh. I aim to balance the coaching/guiding, professional side with genuine support and care, and I hope that I am able to guide you in your report writing journey so that you find this aspect of work far more enjoyable and not a slog to be dreaded.

In my spare time I volunteer at my local maternity hospital as a birth companion (doula) with a non-profit organization. I have found that supporting and holding space for women in need to be very rewarding. I also enjoy spending time with my family, camping with friends, and evenings spent laughing with those I love the most. If you had to call my best friend and ask her to describe me, I think sheā€™d describe me as enthusiastic, caring, and loyal.
