Hello, my name is Lydia.

I studied Speech Language and Hearing Therapy at the beautiful University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, qualifying in 2012. I started out my career working mainly with adults at a physical rehabilitation hospital, but after a few years working with the adult population I realised that my passion lay with children. I left the hospital environment and have since worked in my own private practice as well as for the education department at a remedial school. Due to my own love for reading and a desire to give others access to the world of literature, my area of special interest is literacy and dyslexia. I have been enrolled in a British Dyslexia Association accredited Award in Literacy and Dyslexia since 2021 and have loved developing my knowledge and skills in this area. The course is due to be completed at the end of 2022.

My husband Juan and I have been married since 2016. We have a little boy who keeps me busy and distracts me from many of my previous hobbies, but I still manage to read every day. Whilst my preferred genre to read will always be fiction, a non-fiction book that has had a big impact on my life is Atlas of the Heart, by Brené Brown, which has given so much clarity in understanding the human experience of emotions and connection.
