Sarah Milne
Head of Service
I am the Head of Service at Words First. I qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2001 at The University of Manchester. I have been working for over 20 years in a variety of paediatric settings: mainstream primary and secondary schools, special schools and resource provisions. I worked for 16 years for the NHS, where I was Manager for the Secondary School Team across Central London Community Health Team. I joined Words First in Feb 2017. Working at Words First I am able offer a bespoke service to my schools. I am able to follow the research and evidence base and apply this knowledge to the specific needs of the school. In doing this I can provide them with a service that suits their school and their students. I love being part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team. I enjoy delivering training and supervising the team to ensure that our therapists are skilled in providing a whole range of services to their schools. I am passionate about ensuring that Speech and Language Therapy has an impact in our schools and I strongly believe that training the staff we work with is one way we can do this. My role gives me the opportunity to train staff from a variety of schools, and being able to see the impact of this training on staff and students is very rewarding. Alongside being a Speech and Language Therapist I am a mother of two. We enjoy spending time together in our garden as well as swimming and cycling. We all enjoy reading together, and seeing my children gradually acquire this skill has been fascinating and so much fun. We especially enjoyed the Oi Frog series by Kes Grey and Jim Field. The children and I love playing with words and rhymes.
