BSc (Hons) in Speech-Language Pathology
Hello, my name is Sarah, I studied a BSc (Hons) in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Cape Town and qualified in 2019. Following my qualification, I went on to complete my community service (January-December 2020) working as a Speech and Language Therapist in an urban, government hospital in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Here I worked as the only SaLT in the entire hospital, servicing both the in- and outpatient departments. During my community-service year I worked with people from all walks of life, from neonates right through to the elderly, working on a range of speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. In January 2021 I moved to London to join the Words First team, where I currently work in both primary and secondary schools. My areas of interest lie in speech sound disorders, social communication difficulties and dysphagia. What I love most about Words First is the support we get as therapists. We are an ever-growing team of incredible therapists who constantly assist each other to develop our skills and our areas of interest. In my spare time I love cooking, baking, mountain biking, and cycling and exploring places in and around London. If I had to describe myself in three words, I would probably use the words that my friends and family would describe me with: energetic, passionate, and organised.
