Bachelor of Communication Pathology (Hons) Speech – Language Pathology
Hello, my name is Thashni. I graduated from the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN), South Africa in 2016 with an Honours degree in Communication Pathology Speech – Language Pathology. Following my qualification, I completed my community-service year and was appointed the sole speech and language therapist at a district hospital in rural KZN. During my experience, I provided a vast range of speech and language services to neonates right through to geriatrics. Here, I learned the significance of family-centered intervention and PACT (Parent and Child Therapy) while working alongside a multidisciplinary team, ensuring holistic patient care. Later, I realised that my passion for children, in a school setting, overpowered my desire to work in a hospital environment. Words First thus fulfilled my dream. 😊 I have been a part of the Words First Family since April 2020 and have loved every step of my journey thus far. What I love most about Words First is the ongoing support, constant guidance and the fun-filled, knowledgeable team with a variety of expertise. I have a special interest in and wish to pursue my studies in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder. My hobbies and most prized accomplishments are having graduated in Indian Classical dance – Bharathanatyam and trained in Indian Classical – two interests which I often perform in my spare time. “Passionate, ambitious and caring” I believe are 3 words which describe me best and have helped mold my career in Speech and Language Therapy.
