Safeguarding Lead and Education Consultant

Hi my name is Claire.

I qualified as a Teacher in 2014 at the University of Northumbria. Alongside my Teaching Degree I have a MA in Special & Inclusive Education (University of London – Institute of Education) and I’m qualified as a Senior Mental Health Lead (Place 2 Be) and Safeguarding Supervisor (NSPCC).

Before embarking on this new role with Words First, I worked with schools in East London for 20 years. My most recent role was Executive Deputy Head teacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead for a primary school in Newham. Alongside my work for Words First, I am also a Trust Director of Safeguarding for an Academy Trust and Safeguarding Trainer and Auditor for a Community Interest Company.

Mental health is one of my greatest passions; whether it is working with schools, the workforce, organisations and society. I had the huge privilege of volunteering as a Samaritan for several years.

In my spare time I love being a mum to one – the greatest honour is seeing the world through the eyes of a curious young person, mesmerised by their acquisition of and enjoyment with language. I also volunteer as a mentor for the Mentor Mums charity, supporting mums navigating working alongside parenting. If you were to ask my family and friends which 3 words best describe me, they would most likely say nurturing, driven and empathic.
