Daniel Brown

SaLT

Hello, my name is Daniel.

I am a dual qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) and Primary School Teacher. I studied Speech and Language Therapy at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh and qualified in 2017. I then completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education with a specialism in Special Educational Needs in 2020 in London.

Over the past five years my experience as a SaLT has taken me to a variety of settings; from working at the International School of Brussels to the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Throughout Covid-19, I have spent time working as a Key Stage 2 Primary Teacher in South London. My passion is the link between functional communication, language, and literacy. These skills empower individuals, foster curiosity, creativity, learning and expands our ability to explore our world; to be confident and independent people. Part of this process involves working closely with the families and schools of the children I support. This is truly a privilege to be able to not only facilitate but empower these focal units to support their child’s and student’s communication and learning.

A little bit about me! I have practiced Shotokan Karate for the past 15 years (with a few breaks due to travel for work) and I absolutely love the disciple and energy it brings. I try to attend live stand-up comedy events whenever possible as who doesn’t love to laugh! Audio books and podcasts are a slight obsession of mine. I love to explore different worlds and learn new things in this way. My favourite author is Seamus Heaney, an Irish Poet, whose poems remind me of the landscape of Ireland where I’m from. No matter where in the world I am, his poetry transports me home.
