BSc Psychology, MSc Speech and Language Sciences

Hello, my name is Kaho. I studied at University College, London for both my undergraduate and Master’s degrees, and qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2020. Prior to this, I worked as a 1:1 teaching assistant, tutored students who spoke English as a second language and worked as a research assistant on projects around voice disorders and word-finding difficulties. I currently work in mainstream primary and secondary schools as well as an alternate provision, where I support students with a range of speech, language and communication needs. I particularly enjoy the multidisciplinary nature of the job, where I get to work alongside a range of professionals (including SENCOs, teaching assistants and occupational therapists) to develop students’ communicative abilities – it’s very rewarding to see them progress and grow in confidence! My special interests lie in understanding how social, emotional and mental health needs can affect a student’s speech and language development. I have really enjoyed my time at Words First and love the close-knit and supportive nature of the team, as well as the innovative approaches taken to support students’ communication skills.  In my spare time, I enjoy indulging in culinary experiences from cooking, baking and trying out different restaurants. I also love to explore new places (and do a lot of walking!) whether it is within or outside of London. Having asked my friends to describe me in 3 words, they have described me as being positive, forward-thinking and determined.
