Pre-Reg SALT

Hi my name is Thato

I am a Speech Therapist who graduated in 2021 from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. I went on to complete my community service at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (Bara) in Johannesburg 2022. My time during university and at Bara has given me experience in working with individuals from all backgrounds, be it paediatric or adult populations. My time at Bara particularly focused on the paediatric and special needs populations, mainly those with feeding, fluency, articulation, and learning difficulties just to name a few.

I have a particular interest in working with the paediatric population, particularly disfluency and voice difficulties. I have recently gained a newfound interest in AAC. I became a SaLT because I used to stutter and Speech Therapy played a significant role in not only improving my speech, but also in building my confidence.

My spare time is spent taking walks, drawing, listening to or reading poetry, and reading Manga. Poetry has played a major role in shaping how I view the world, with a few notable poets being: MaKhafula Vilakazi, Clint Smith, and Rudy Francisco.
