Zea Maez Estrellado

OT

Hi, my name is Maez!

I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy at De La Salle Medical & Health Sciences Institute in 2020.

I had my clinical internship in four OT settings ranging from paediatrics, adults with physical dysfunction, community-based rehabilitation, and mental health rehabilitation.

I find it most fulfilling immersing myself in a school-based setting, handling children with Autism, Developmental Delays and Learning Disability. During my training period, I practiced key managements including behavioural modification techniques, sensory integration, using play in itself and means to other ends, handwriting, group therapy for children and delivering a comprehensive caregiver education.

My greatest passion is being a paediatric OT. I love how holistic and client centred this profession is. It gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment whenever I see a child reach a milestone — more so when I am able to connect with their parents, helping them understand and manage their child’s condition to nurture a happy and accepting home environment.

I gravitate towards a school-based setting because it’s where a child spends most of their time. I believe it must be a comfortable and safe space where children can be themselves, have fun with friends, and develop their full potential.

My aim is to help children achieve occupational balance by ensuring they don’t neglect important yet often overlooked areas, such as play and social participation.

Working and spending time with children is one of the greatest gifts of my profession. I genuinely feel fulfilled every time I see a child enjoy and participate in the activities I deliver. I know I’ve done my job well when I’m able to make them smile.

I spend most of my spare time listening to music or insightful podcasts, and enjoy singing, baking, and spending quality time with family and friends. I love going out for a walk to explore and discover new cafes for a cup of coffee, and head to the cinemas to watch the latest film.

If you had to call my best friend and ask them to describe me, I think they’d describe me as caring, playful and Authentic.
