Chanel Opperman

OT

Hello, my name is Chanel.

I studied Occupational Therapy at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and graduated in 2019. I started working at a public mental health hospital in South Africa in 2020 where I gained experience working with individuals with mental health difficulties, learning difficulties, autism, and other complex needs. In 2021, I moved to the UK where I worked within an acute mental health setting. My experience in mental health has given me a unique insight into the challenges that children and adolescents face.

I have a special interest in working with children and adolescents with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. I have also completed additional training in group therapy and a Sensory Integration preceptorship. My goal is to create a safe space where young individuals can feel understood, valued, and supported. By fostering their self-esteem, promoting positive coping strategies, and enhancing their ability to engage in meaningful activities, I aspire to contribute to their overall well-being and success.

When I am not at work, I dedicate my time to my family, friends, my two cats, traveling, and trying new things. My hobbies include portrait photography, horse riding, being creative, baking, and I am currently learning to play the piano. A few words used in the past to describe me include passionate, dedicated, and caring.
