Team Lead

Lisa Wright, Speech and Language Therapist, MSC.

Hello, I’m Lisa. I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from City University’s post graduate course in 2010. During my first post I had the opportunity to carry out a research project which I grabbed with both hands and used to get my Masters qualification.
I have always been passionate about working with children with language disorder which I have done in each of my jobs since qualifying. I love working at Words First for a huge number of reasons; the main reason is the opportunities for career development and the ability to follow my passion in Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). I am one of the leads for DLD in the company, which means to am able to keep up to date with and share current research, advise colleagues and become involved in raising awareness of DLD. I also supervise other therapists which is very rewarding and a fantastic learning opportunity. Additionally, I am able to work flexibly and feel very supported within the company.
Outside of work I’m a keen runner and have recently run my first half marathon. I love reading, listening to music, watching films, spending time with my family and friends and I do a bit of drawing here and there too.
One of the books that has had a big impact on my life is So Lucky by Dawn O’Porter. It’s a very bold book and I love it because it is a great reminder of how we sometimes, consciously or subconsciously, judge or make assumptions about people and their lives, without knowing anything about them. I’m also a big fan of the Harry Potter books and have just started reading them to my son which I have been looking forward to since he was born!
