Bachelor of Communication-Pathology (Hons.)
Hello, my name is Casey. I studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, graduating in 2016. I have a range of SaLT experience that includes working within a multi-disciplinary team at a district hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, as well as working for a non-profit organisation to deliver a therapy programme and create a curriculum for disadvantaged children across the Western Cape of South Africa. In addition, I have supported SaLT companies with their marketing and business development in line with my experience before qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist. I have a special interest in working with children who have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and social communication needs. These areas of interest have made me passionate about working with students to advocate for their needs and raising awareness of the impact these needs may have on speech, language and communication. Within Words First, I am a supervisor, and in addition I manage visa applications and sponsorship for expats who are interested in joining the company. I love working for Words First because of the multitude of people I come into contact with on a daily basis, as well as the unique approaches to intervention and the incredible support from the team. Words First has given me the opportunity to move abroad to the UK from South Africa, and grow my knowledge with a unique outlook from contrasting contexts. Within the company I am affectionately known as “The Guinea Pig”, as I was the first therapist to move to London on a sponsored work visa. In my spare time, I enjoy indulging in the arts and negotiating with my partner about buying a puppy. If you had to call my siblings and ask them to describe me, I think they would say I am meticulous, creative, and theatrical.
