Caryn Gabriel

SALT

Hello, my name is Caryn.

I studied at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa and qualified in 2008. I worked in an adult academic hospital during my community service year where I gained valuable experience in working with the adult population. I then worked at a school for learners with special educational needs where I found my passion for developmental learning disorders. I worked closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team such as teachers, parents, Occupational Therapists, remedial therapists, psychologists, and social workers. Working at a school for the past 14 years has helped me develop my clinical skills to provide therapy that is child-centred and meets the needs of the teachers, learners, and their families.

I am passionate about helping children overcome the barriers they experience to become happy, healthy, and contributing members of society. I have a special interest in developmental language disorders and making therapy accessible to families and teachers through training and open communication. I am excited to work at Words First because the company is geared towards keeping the child at the centre of everything.

In my spare time, (even though I don’t have a sweet tooth!), you will often find me baking for friends and family.  If you had to call my best friend and ask them to describe me, I think they’d describe me as funny, honest, and loyal.Â
