BSC Speech, Language & Hearing Therapy
Hello, my name is Emily. I studied at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and I qualified in 2015. I have experience working in a village hospital treating adults and paediatrics both in the wards and outpatients for sessions. Due to the size of the village, I was the only therapist in the area and many concerned mums brought their school-aged children for therapy. It was during this time that I realised my passion for little people and more specifically, for their speech, language & literacy development. I also have experience working in a small private practice in South Africa servicing primary schools. I have a special interest in dyspraxia and various other speech sound disorders and wish to grow my clinical skills in this area even further. I am passionate about forming positive and trusted relationships with students and staff. I endeavour to reach out to parents and carers to include everybody in the therapy process as much as possible! There is so much reward in seeing a student as thrilled to work with me as I am to work with them! I am currently a level 4b mentor in the Words First family and I love the high level of support and wealth of knowledge and expertise in the team. In my spare time I can be found exploring the countryside on my bicycle, attempting watercolour paintings, catching a show in the West End or simply enjoying a fantastic book/movie with a glass of red. If you had to call my best friend and ask her to describe me, I think she’d describe me as friendly, creative and thoughtful.
