Kate Weeden

Principal Therapist

Hi my name is Kate,

Following an early career in acting and musical theatre, I am lucky to have found a second love in Speech and Language Therapy. Both careers allowed me to pursue my passion developing communication skills, sharing stories, and making connections with people.

I trained at City University and have over 15 years of experience working across NHS and Education settings supporting young people with a range of communication needs in early years, mainstream schools, and special school settings. My specialism is using a total communication approach that incorporates storytelling and drama techniques across a range of clinical areas. I am excited by the evolving evidence base in using process drama and story-telling methods across education and therapy providing positive outcomes for students’ communication skills, social interactions, confidence, and well-being.

I have worked in various leadership roles and continue to get a kick out of sharing the success stories of the teams and individuals I’ve supported: achieving their clinical competencies, nurturing innovative and creative thinking, shaping robust service delivery and collectively celebrating the progress of our young people.

I am delighted to be part of the Words First team who have a track record of delivering high standards of clinical excellence supporting communication and literacy needs and have exciting plans for growth and development as a first-class multidisciplinary service. Alongside my therapy work, I’m a Mum and part of a big family who also enjoy music and performing. We are collectively known as the Von Trapps of my hometown! I also love travelling, cooking, and soaking up London’s theatreland.
